40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN
The Kickoff Event for the spring 40 Days for Life Campaign is tomorrow, Tue. Feb. 9th 6pm. Join in Praying for God’s Blessing and
Mercy on the Campaign. Invite Every Pro-Life person you know to attend.
The kickoff will begin at 6:00 PM on the Public right-of-way in front of Planned Parenthood, Plano** (600 N. Central Expwy, Plano, Tx 75074)
**Please park on Executive Dr., south of Planned Parenthood, to avoid your vehicle being towed.
Primarily, the battle we are in is spiritual and is for the hearts and minds of all of God’s children. Being an important election year, this rally heightens the need for all of us to draw together in prayer to pray and ask for God's blessings upon us and all those whom we encounter during these 40 days of prayer, vigil and fasting.
GCRW will be participating for our seventh year in the bi annual 40 Days for Life which begins Feb 10th at the same location as the Rally. Register with Elizabeth Muzyka for the campaign at 469-855-2001 or email@example.com
2016 Board Member Highlight
Hope Fobes, GCRW Treasurer 2016
Hope Fobes started attending Golden Corridor Republican Women (GCRW) meetings after she retired in 2008. She had been active in her precinct and had attended senate district conventions but had never belonged to a political club before. Hope volunteered to help at the State convention in Houston where she met another volunteer who talked her into attending the next GCRW meeting. At GCRW, Hope was tapped to do the newsletter since she knew computers. Since then, she's served as the Newsletter Editor, the Webmaster, the Homeland Security officer, and the VP of Awards. In 2016 Hope will be serving as the GCRW Treasurer. She also has served as a Collin County election judge or clerk in every election cycle since 2009.
Hope retired from Software Engineering after 40 plus years in that male dominated field. She developed trajectory error analysis software for Martin Marietta for the Viking flight to Mars and software for Texas Instruments that created the first military GPS systems as well as other ballistics and military systems. Hope retired from Andrew Corporation where she had worked on satellite tracking and wireless communications. She started software development when computers took up whole rooms (like the Univac 6500 and IBM 360s). The embedded processors on our Iphones now have more computing capacity than the ones that went to Mars or the moon.
Hope has been married to Bill Fobes for 34 years. They have two grown sons, two daughters-in-law, and one beautiful granddaughter. Bill and Hope are both very active in their church, Chase Oaks Church, and in their community. They serve as leaders in the marriage enrichment program at their church and work with Samaritan Inn, a homeless shelter and outreach.
Additionally, Hope participates in Bible Study Fellowship, a second women’s bible study, a Mah Jongg group, and a Book Club. In the summer, she leads a water aerobics group at her home. Hope also creates photo books of important personal times and events. She's created a series of photo books from her father’s journals. Hope's father, Michael Biro, was a consistent and prolific journalist. She inherited a set of 40 journals and innumerable photos. The first journal of her father’s that she published was written in 1936 when her father was just 22 years old. Hope published four other journals written in 1952 through 1958 when her father was a full time pastor. Bill’s family had a journal from Simon Fobes, a revolutionary war & Breed’s Hill veteran and early settler of the Great Western Reserve (Ohio!) that Hope published with additional historical information from family records.
Hope and Bill's retirement has allowed them the freedom and time to travel. Her family background is Hungarian so she imagines the gypsy blood is strong as is her desire to travel. Bill is more than willing to go along for the ride. They like cruises and road trips and visiting family and friends – and making new friends. One goal is to visit as many National Parks as they can. This time in their lives is certainly a great – and an active time. And GCRW is a large part of Hope's Life.
We are very thankful for all of our 2015 Patrons!
The GCRW Patrons are an important funding component for our club. Their patronage allows us to be able to provide support to candidates that we feel represent us, our goals, and values for maintaining a strong local, state and national government. We would like to thank each and every one of our patrons for their dedication and support of our club endeavors and invite our members to visit our 2015 Patron pages to obtain additional information about them and the services they provide to our communities.
Attention ALL GCRW Members:
As an ongoing part of our monthly meetings, we will continue to have a photographer taking meeting photos and also membership photos. It is especially important that we capture the photographs of all NEW members, any first-time attendees, and special guests! In that vein, we would ask that each of you please check-in and immediately go and have your photo taken (on the stage) if you have not done so over the course of the last few meetings. We thank you for your help in ensuring that we have the most current data and photos for our club publications.
